Perjury Charges May Come From House Probe Of Estes
The House subcommittee chair said it will refer to the Justice Department the contrasting testimony of two key witnesses in the Billie Sol Estes case for possible perjury prosecution. Dallas lawyer Frank Cain testified that Maynard Wheeler did not tell the truth about a meeting with Estes at Estes home last March 18. Wheeler had previously denied offering to use Estes in Europe. Wheeler represents Pacific Finance Co which holds $4.5 million in claims against Estes who is under indictment for fraud. Wheeler's firm extended over $5 million in credit and loans to Estes. The chairman called the witnesses' statements diametrically opposed and noted one or the other is lying.
