Insurance Rate Reduction Seen
The State Board of Insurance proposed an overall reduction in private passenger auto rates with an Aug. 1 effective date. The plan shows about 3 million dollars in annual premium savings, a 3 percent statewide dip in bodily injury rates, and a 96 percent rise in property damage policies. Collision premiums would drop about 5 percent, comprehensive 15.5 percent, and medical payments rise 7 percent. The board cites a good year for wind and hail as the driver behind lower comprehensive rates, offsetting higher claim costs. The hearing served to formalize posting of new rates.
