Escape fugitive in Brushy Mountain break linked to James Earl Ray

Warden Stonney Lane said three inmates planned the escape using a makeshift pipe ladder. James Earl Ray and Earl Hill were recaptured in Anderson County after being missing for days, while Doug Shelton remained at large. Ray refused interrogation and showed no injuries after capture.

County Tax Rate Will Stay Same In Childress

The Childress County Commissioners Court kept the tax rate at 95 cents per $100, the same as prior years. They approved a bond for Deputy Billy Don Hinton, set salary at 580 dollars monthly, and postponed annual audit of county funds for year ending Sept 30 1977. Landrums New Heads Of Eastern Star

Mr and Mrs Alton Landrum were installed as worthy matron and worthy patron of Childress Chapter 101 Order of Eastern Star in Masonic Hall. Presentations were made by the Landrums grandchildren.
