Farmers face further losses as another 2 to 3 inches of rain fell over the weekend washing out newly planted cotton and wheat fields. By end May total rainfall reached 16.02 inches at CAA with 3.28 inches in the two days Saturday and Sunday, while nearby lakes saw little runoff. Road and rail bridges were washed out in west and southwest areas, but routes via Estelline to Red River crossings were restored and main lines to Fort Worth remained open.

Radiation Effects On Animals Studied After Atomic Test
Scientists examined scores of mice pigs and monkeys exposed to radiation at the Nevada proving grounds in a test aimed at developing practical human shields. Animals were anesthetized placed at varying distances behind shields and dosimeters were implanted to measure internal and external radiation. Memorial Day Traffic Toll Falls Below Early Estimates
Safety officials hailed the four day Memorial Day period as traffic deaths staying well below predictions. A United Press count showed at least 390 killed in road crashes from 6 p.m. Wednesday to midnight Sunday with 632 deaths including planes boats and other accidents. California led with 33 fatalities followed by Texas 31 and Ohio 25. Incidents included a Stamford Texas two car wreck killing five and four youths killed by a train near Wausau Wisconsin.
