Naval Planes Shoot Down Red Fighters
The State Department reported two U S Navy carrier planes shot down two Chinese Communist fighters off the Chinese coast while searching for survivors of the Cathay Pacific airliner. Three Americans died in the liner’s loss and three were saved in a rescue op. The U S planes returned fire and no U S casualties occurred. Secretary Dul les condemned the Communist actions and interference.
