President Eisenhower seeks Senate support to salvage a large foreign aid program after the House approved 3.4 billion for fiscal 1957, 1.5 billion below request and 600 million under authorized. Senate action expected by tonight or Friday.
Six hopefuls Price Daniel Ralph Yarborough W Lee O Daniel Reuben Senterfitt J Evetts Haley and J J Holmes campaigned across Texas weighing foreign aid school integration labor influence and industrial safety. Daniel urged water projects and warned against out of state labor bosses while O Daniel pitched lakes and drought relief with Gatesville and Round Rock stops.
Police said three crashes yesterday afternoon caused damage but no injuries. At 1 p m Jim Terrell and Darrell Murphy collided on Commerce and Avenue A with Murphy ticketed for excessive speed. At 1 40 p m Noel Reed Graham and Richard Bell collided on 5th Street Se and Avenue H Se with minor damage and no tickets. At 5 10 p m Clifford Mullins and Margaret Tansly collided near 16th Street and Avenue F with minor damage and no tickets.
Texas Ranger disarmed political boss George Parr in the Duval county courthouse basement after he allegedly entered with a rifle and threatened county commissioner Thomas Molina. Molina reported the threats but Parr was released on a $1,000 bond after arrest by Ranger Walter Russell.
Across the nation rock n roll prompts bans in Asbury Park and Jersey City to curb teen unrest. In Washington DC a riot caused a temporary ban at the armory. Denver voices protest and piano tuners report broken bass wires linked to the music. A Roosevelt University sociologist cites adolescent outlet and social frustration.
Warren G. Harding, Dallas County treasurer and World War II veteran, on a Panhandle tour, visited Childress last night during his bid for state treasurer. The 35-year-old Texan is in his third term in Dallas County.
Funeral services for Charles Ed ward Rose a 14 year old known as Cee Wee will be held Friday at 3 pm at Calvary Baptist Church Childress burial follows at Childress Cemetery under Newberry Funeral Home. The youth died from an accidental gunshot wound while talking with two sisters at a yard table.
Vice President Richard M. Nixon signaled he desires to be the Republican running mate again with President Eisenhower in the 1956 campaign. He reiterated his readiness to join forces after returning from a round-the-world trip and noted he told Eisenhower last April of his happiness to serve as vice president again.
More than 400 signatures gathered toward securing an election on liquor sales in Childress County. The goal is 760 signatures by August 5 to trigger the vote, with the Griffin-Butler Grocery building opening Saturday for signatures and a notary public on site for residents over age 60.
Athens reports the US Navy destroyer Hawkins arrived at Thera with water and emergency supplies for quake survivors. The destroyer Hancock sails toward the island as relief aids reach the affected Aegean settlement where about half of Thera’s 10 000 residents were left homeless after a Monday quake and volcanic eruptions.

Gettysburg Pa. May 1956 President Eisenhower will travel to San Francisco in August to accept the Republican nomination heading an Eisenhower and Nixon ticket. GOP chair Hall said Nixon will likely be No 2 and Ike will attend the convention after nomination around Aug 22. Hall predicted a vigorous campaign and a GOP regain of Congress.

Bill Adams, head of the Childress Jaycee Club filtering plant fund drive, was named Jaycee of the Month at today's noon meeting. He received a certificate from President Larry Lawrence for leading funds to build the Fair Park swimming pool filtering plant and for long service to the group. Special guest Miss Yvonne Helmstetler was named Jaycee Queen, with runners up Miss Evelyn Rogers and Miss Marcia Howard set to appear on KGNC TV in Amarillo. Joe B Mills announced Tony Compton won the Jaycee Junior Golf tourney and will represent the club at the Brownwood state tournament July 18 through 20, with expenses paid by the Childress Jaycees.

Severe weather damaged private planes at Sioux City airport and shattered windows while lightning sparked several barn fires and power outages across Des Moines and Milwaukee area towns.

Soviet officials say the address is important, following recent speeches by Henry Cabot Lodge Jr. and Anthony Nutting. Gromyko has opposed Western disarmament proposals and accused the West of sabotaging talks.
