A Continental Airlines Viscount I turbo-prop crash landed in a wheat field near Amarillo after takeoff. Pilot Larry Lauratis and co pilot Ed Gorman credited training for a safe belly landing. 13 passengers and 3 crew escaped, with one hospitalized for a cut ear. The plane was a total loss after two explosions.

Eight Killed In Accident Near Brandywine Maryland
A car traveling about 100 miles an hour side swiped another and rammed a third near Brandywine Maryland killing eight people. Initial police reports listed nine dead. among the victims was John A Johnson 20 of Washington. Officials said Johnson was in critical condition. All the deceased were in the same 1955 convertible. John L Ford 22 among those killed.

More Showers Predicted In Panhandle
The leading edge of a midsummer cold front brought cooler weather and thundershowers to the Texas Panhandle with further showers forecast for the Panhandle Southwest Texas and the coastal plain.
