Traffic toll hits record during Fourth of July holiday
United Press International reports the Fourth of July period set a new traffic death record with at least 427 people killed in traffic accidents from Friday 6pm to Sunday midnight. The toll, plus 155 drownings and 118 other accidental deaths, pushed total holiday fatalities to about 700. Alaska, Delaware and New Hampshire recorded no traffic fatalities.
