January highway fatalities report across Lubbock region
In January 1976 Childress County recorded the sole fatality from highway wrecks in its area. Across 60 counties there were 373 accidents with 11 deaths and 175 injuries, down from 451 accidents, 16 deaths, and 241 injuries in January 1975. Deaths occurred in Garza, Archer, Clay, Dickens, Terry, Wichita, Armstrong, Childress, Donley, and Potter.

Funeral services for H. Deskins Wells 73 publisher of the Wellington Leader for over 50 years will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Wellington First United Methodist Church. Wells died at 6 45 p m Monday in Collingsworth General Hospital with Rev. James Boswell officiating. Burial will be in Wellington Cemetery. Mr Wells was born east of Collingsworth County.
