New Police Car Put Into Service
The second Nash Rambler with a special police motor was put into service by the Police Department Saturday. The first of the new cars was placed into service about two months ago. Cars which the Ramblers have replaced will be used in other departments of the city.
Cattle rustling charges filed against Childress man
Three men are jailed in Hollis Harmon County for cattle rustling. Jessie McDearmon of Childress is charged in Clarendon. Bobby Gene Willett of Snyder Texas faces Monday charges. Fourth suspect unnamed, third unnamed. Cattle recovered, some unbranded. Efforts planned to extradite the defendants to Texas.

Texas Cold Front Fails to Bring Snow
A Pacific cold front swept Texas Saturday lowering temperatures toward freezing with strong 41 mph winds and blowing dust in West Texas. Tornado reported southwest of Omega Oklahoma but caused no damage or injuries. Light rain fog and drizzle spread across much of Texas while Panhandle and North Central Texas expected to cool further with no major snow. Overnight lows ranged from 26 at Guadalupe Pass to 61 at Brownsville.

Rifle Team Wins Pampa Meet In Intercollegiate Style
The American Legion Junior Rifle Team won first at the Pampa Invitational. Dewey Bushon noted three team members finished second through fourth in individual scoring. G Balzer of Perryton led with 377 of 400 as Sammy Bushon scored 375, Gary Hassell 370, and Truett Ball 362. Harold Walkup was the fourth team member. The Chil dress second team did not compete due to illness. Mikie Pennell, Preston Stevens and John McConnell also shot but did not place.

Death Claims Resident of Over 50 Years
Robert Landers Roberts, a Childress resident of more than 50 years, died at 1 25 a m Saturday in a local rest home after months of illness. He was 90, born February 14 1870 in Tennessee, came to the county in 1908, and was a retired farmer railroad man and oil mill employee. Survivors include six daughters two sons three brothers one sister 22 grandchildren 52 great grandchildren and 14 great great grandchildren. Funeral services are 2 pm Monday at the Assembly of God Church with Rev Lloyd McIntosh officiating. interment in Childress cemetery directed by Newberry Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Orval Thornton Norman Love Adam Wilson Mack Taylor Jack Preston and Earl Allen.

Merit Tests Set for 25 Chipps High Students
Twenty five Childress High School students will take the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test at the school on March 8. Coordinator F E A Sanders will supervise a 9 a m start for this three hour exam, the first step in the sixth annual Merit Scholarship program. Over 15 million dollars has been awarded in the first four years of the program.
