Secretary of State Cyrus R. Vance arrived in Cairo as the second leg of his regional trip. He lauded Egyptian President Anwar Sadat as a man of vision, a statesman and a leader.
James Ray Cox former executive vice president of the Cleburne National Bank began duties Monday as president of the First State Bank of Childress succeeding Keith Pitner. Cox has banked since 1961 and holds Hardin Simmons University credentials. He and his wife Glenda have four children. Funeral services for O K Young 88 of Estelline were set for 2 p m today at the First Baptist Church of Estelline with burial in Childress Cemetery. He was born October 11 1888 and moved to Hall County in 1912 later working as a bus mechanic for schools retiring in 1962. Survivors include two daughters a son five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
State Capitol evacuated as Childress held a Wednesday bloodmobile drive with 86 donors surpassing a blood type A positive target. Mrs. James Driver, chairman, praised volunteers and donors including first-time givers. Red Cross nurse cited Bethania Hospital in Wichita Falls drawing on A positive stock for a patient in need.
Asst. U.S. Atty. Ron Eddins said sessions on the disappearance of North Texas dealer Robert M. Johnson were productive. The grand jury adjourned after three days of testimony without indictments or reports. Johnson reportedly drowned after falling overboard near the Gulf of Mexico.
Local heart fund packets must be returned to block chairmen or James Driver by Saturday for tallying Childress County totals. A barn fire near the Childress Sale Barn is at noon with details sparse. County commissioners approve $500 for the Soil and Water Conservation District for another year contingent on new projects. Over four days police investigated two crashes and a disturbance. Alton Earp, 71, apparently blacked out at the wheel causing a crash at Third and D Nw damaging homes at 400 and 404 D Nw. Another collision at Fourth and Dan between Neva Rothwell and Elma Vitela caused extensive vehicle damage with no injuries. Four people were fined $17.50 for the disturbance. no traffic tickets issued.

Funeral services for Billie Bryson 75 of Hollis Oklahoma were held at Faith Baptist Church Hollis. She lived in Childress 1922 to 1929 and died Tuesday in a Hollis hospital. Burial was in Hollis Cemetery. Survivors include husband Russell two sons Norris and Don two daughters Lois Dill and Mary Jo Boggs both of Hollis 17 grandchildren and several great grandchildren and a brother Lloyd Bussey of
The House Ways and Means Committee moves to deny $50 rebates to singles and families earning over $30,000 and scales down the rebate for those $25,000 to $30,000. It extends rebates to 11 million AFDC recipients, many of whom owe no income tax. The action reduces the President's $111.4 billion tax refund by about $1 billion.
Paul Clanton Jr. has become the Childress DPS sergeant after 18 years with the Texas Department of Public Safety. He moves from Victoria with his wife Noalene and two children, Paula and Shane, and previously served as a trooper in Athens. He notes DPS growth to about 1,400 troopers and improved tools and communications, and says he and his family chose Childress for a long-term stay with four troopers currently serving the area.
City Planning and Zoning approved a mobile home site at 602 K Se for Edward Spiller pending council consent. Kirkland Church of Christ seeks a 4700 to 10000 square foot building at 13th and Man, with cost questions on curb and gutter delaying action.
Washington AP reports House members may adjourn for the weekend to force a vote on a $12,900 pay raise raising members from $44,600 to $57,000 with no sure vote to stop it. An effort to force a recorded vote failed as Speaker O Neill backs the raise but says he cannot override rules.
Funeral services for Mrs. I. D. Mullin Sr. 84 of Turkey were held at the Church of Christ with ministers Lewis Hunter and Claude Woods officiating. Interment followed in Dreamland Cemetery. She died Feb. 15 at Hall County Hospital in Memphis after a brief illness. She is survived by four sons, five daughters, four brothers, two sisters, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The Cemetery Committee also gave a donation to the Cemetery Improvement Project per Mrs. Roy Southern project chairman.
