Paul Rogers Dies at 79 Rites Set for Wednesday
Paul Rogers 79 died after a brief illness at Childress General Hospital. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Price officiating. Burial will be at Childress Cemetery. Survivors include three sons J W Rogers of Dublin Ireland Tom Rogers of Seminole and Charles Rogers. He had moved to Childress in 1920 from Quanah and was active in civic and church affairs. He served in the US Marine Corps and was a past exalted ruler of BPOE Lodge 1113 and a member of Veterans of World War I. Burial details provided by Newberry Funeral Home.

Veterans To Receive Money For WW II Vets In Childress
The Veterans Administration will pay about 120 veterans in Childress County roughly 10 000 each as part of a 3 768 million payout to service members. Dividends from GI policy insurance are being accelerated and most funds should be distributed by month end. The Childress Independent School District board, in executive session, decided to search outside the district for a new superintendent after Jack Martin resigned effective July. Two candidates, one local and one out of town, were interviewed Monday night as the board plans further executive sessions and another applicant interview Wednesday night if possible. Martin, in his remarks, said meetings would continue until a replacement is hired and noted he will return to private business in Normangee after 13 years in Rusk and three years in Childress.
