Four suspects including three Black Liberation Front members were arrested in New York for conspiring to blow up the Statue of Liberty the Liberty Bell and the Washington Monument. Authorities identified Robert Steele Collier 28 Walter Augustus Bowe 32 and Khaleel Sultann Sayyed 22 along with a white woman. The case was announced by FBI Director J Edgar Hoover amid multi city arrests by FBI agents and New York police.

Lions Club hears program on Palestine and elects pageant team

Hour Fire Damages Two Electra Firms
A four hour blaze in Electra Texas heavily damaged two downtown firms after starting about 11 p.m. in a semi vacant structure between Eli Morgan Motor Co and Carter Furniture Co. Wichita Falls and Iowa Park crews aided Electra firefighters. the body paint shop area within Eli Morgan suffered fire and water damage while the other two firms also sustained heavy damage. All cars were saved from the motor company, according to police desk sergeant Jack Click.

A Monday court session saw one grand jury indictment for check forging against J Emmett Jerrer and three non jury pleas. Erma Jean Goodman admitted a past check fraud and received probation.
