A series of 40 plastic bombs exploded in Oran as Arab demonstrators clashed with French troops and European residents. Early reports cite at least two dead and six wounded, with fires lit in Arab quarters and widespread rioting across the city.
The federal government and Childress County signed a cooperation pact at a Commissioners Court meeting. It covers costs for travel administration and personnel with the county on the program. Dan Carper and Jeff Henderson discussed the revised Civil Defense Plan and a progress report. The federal share of flood damage in Precinct 4, about two years old, totaling about $19,000, would be paid soon. The Austin office offered full cooperation.

He dismissed Rockefeller’s Punta del Este critique, stressing hemispheric unity on Cuba and highlighted the domestic goal of full employment while continuing aid to South Vietnam.

Childress High School Band announces the annual Jamboree with the theme A Night With TV. Band Director Norman Hemp hill says tickets cost 75 cents for adults and 50 cents for students for the 7 30 p.m. February 24 event.
Jeff Henderson announced that more than 300 pecan trees have been ordered for Childress County's Operation Pecan, with about 350 trees ordered to date. No deadline is set. Last year 2,672 trees were sold at $1.50 each through the Chamber of Commerce office. The Tourist committee of the CofC-BCD handles the promotion.
Former Maj. Gen. Edwin A. Walker was removed from the March 7 Madison Square Garden rally after objections by Sen. Barry Goldwater and Sen. John G. Tower. Tower pushed for visa approval for Katanga's Moise Tshombe to attend the same event and was said to worry Walker's candidacy for Texas governor would bias the rally.
In Caracas a massive Betancourt rally denounced Communist Cuba and warned of inter American action. A noise bomb exploded near Silencio Square but caused no injuries as troops and order brigades patrolled. The speech was broadcast nationwide and highlighted Venezuela's stance toward the Castro regime.
