A 75 year old convalescent home in Council Bluffs, Iowa burned, trapping patients and staff. Fourteen people died, ten were injured, and eight more were hospitalized as flames swept through the building during lunch. One unidentified patient found dazed hours later.

Charges Filed In Fatal Crash
Charges of negligent homicide were filed in County Court against Greg Heath 68 of Clarendon by a highway patrolman after a Wednesday morning crash that killed W H Vanderburg a passenger in Heaths car. Vanderburg died at the hospital about 11 45 Wednesday. Heath remained hospitalized in fair condition with no arraignment by noon. The wreck occurred about one mile west of Highway 287 construction debris pile. Vanderburgs body was taken to Pampa for burial.
