American defendants including Francis N. Rosenbaum, Andrew L. Stone, Evelyn Price, Robert B. Bregman faced sentencing in U S District Court.
A U S Army UH1 Huey crash near Da Nang killed 12 Americans aboard and injured no civilians. The flight from Chu Lai to Freedom Hill carried six Army, five Navy, and one Marine, with civilian luggage suggesting leave or homebound travel. Cause unknown. officials found no sign of enemy fire.
Washington AP reports the Nixon administration’s chief economists say grocery prices will rise this year. Beans may cost 45 cents by year end, not return to last year’s 30-cent level. They warn continued increases are realistic.

City council canvassed Saturday's straw vote and agreed to accept minutes 63122 and 63123 from the Texas Highway Department. The decision passed 4 to 1 with Eikman opposed. Estimated city cost ranged from 5 000 to about 17 000, with the school helping around 4 000. The pavement runs along Farm To Market routes from U S 287 to U S 83, near the high school and Ross Road.

Corps of Engineers crews from the Tulsa District will drill test holes along Jonah Creek about five miles north of Prairie Dog Town Fork to 60 feet depth. The project supports the Water Quality Control study to find feasible, low cost brine control for the Red and Arkansas River basins.
Duncan Ellison of Water, Inc. spoke at a Lions Club noon meeting detailing the company’s aims to expand water supplies. He outlined Water, Inc. projects and efforts to bring additional water to West Texas Eastern New Mexico and Western Oklahoma and showed a film.
The 1970 Easter Seal Appeal will open in Childress County on February 23. H. D. Cordell Jr. serves as Easter Seal Representative for the county and says letters will arrive at homes about March 1. He is the local contact to request rehabilitation services from the Easter Seal Society for Crippled Children.
The 1969 cotton season nears end with West Texas and Farmers Coop gins still open. About 35 bales remain in the fields. Total bales to date reach 13,921, compared with 28,544 for last season. Gins closed are Tindall and Tell.
