Mrs Laura Mae Lynch of Pampa is jailed in Childress County charged with murder after shooting her husband Virgil Lee Lynch during a district playoff at Wellington gym. She fired six rounds, four hit, bullets struck a wall. no other injuries reported.
Oil Creek flared at 3 30 p m yesterday before the fire department extinguished the flames. No damage was reported.
President Kennedy urged Congress to fund a wide health program from cradle to old age. The plan centers on Social Security financed hospital and nursing care for those over 65, plus scholarships, school aid, and expanded medical research. It would affect about 14.2 million seniors and cost about $1.1 billion in year one with tax hikes.
Finance and Charter committee met at City Hall to discuss topic assignments for city finances and charter. The Annual Chuck Wagon Supper begins 6 p.m. at Fair Park Auditorium with admission of 1 dollar and servings served until 8 p.m. The High School Stage Band provides entertainment.

Jimmy Clifton a junior from Childress High is the Western District Boy Scouts representative to report on Scouting in the North Texas Area Council. He will travel to Wichita Falls and then Austin to meet other scouts and deliver the report during the 51st anniversary celebrations.
A suburban newspaper classified ad sparks FBI interest in the disappearance of Long Island Police Commissioner John Beckmann. The ad suggests a ransom or security deal, prompting speculation of abduction, but the piece was a newspaper stunt for a scoop. Beckmann, 62, vanished after dropping his wife at a beauty parlor and heading to work with a 2000 member force. He lived with his wife Florence at 153 Fonda Road in Rockville Centre.
Will Ehrle in the Law School at the University of Texas will receive his law degree. He plans to take the Bar Examination in March. Ehrle serves as Representative for the 88th District including Childress Motley Hall and Donley counties.
Information reached here today of the death early this morning of Mrs J A Childers in Gilbert Louisiana. Mrs Childers was the mother of Mrs J W Chambers of Childress and had been ill for several days. Mr and Mrs Chambers have been in Gilbert for the past week. No further information was obtainable at press time.
Washington UPI Caroline Kennedy the Kennedy family’s three year old daughter entertained 97 ambassadors and wives at the White House. She wore a white organdy dress and danced to the Marine band while her parents hosted a diplomatic reception. Caroline’s charm drew attention as the First Family shared the evening. Mrs Kennedy said the child would learn first hand rather than hear them talk about it. Refreshments were champagne and canapes, a shift from prior events.
Texas lawmakers begin the fifth week of the 57th session as a proposed 12 member Little Hoover Commission to audit the executive branch goes to House State Affairs and Senate State Affairs committees. The bills sponsor Rep Dick Cory and Rep Don Kennard with a companion senator Bill Patman bill to be heard later.
Littleton Havins, candidate for Childress postmaster, earned the recommendation of Norman Love, county Democratic chairman, after Havins also received the Childress County Democrats Club endorsement. Havins has served as a local post office clerk for several years.
County Attorney files swindling by worth less check charges against Christine Murdock of Memphis. She has not been arrested.
Snowy January cut water consumption in Childress per a report by City Manager Louis Sally. Total pumped 22,712,400 gallons for a daily average of 732,658. During the period the city hauled 3,685 cubic yards of trash. The city serves 2,503 water customers.
Funeral services were held Wednesday in Detroit Texas for W H Toney 96 father of Mrs L D Pirtle of Childress, who died Monday in Littlefield at a son’s home. Surviving relatives include two granddaughters Mrs A T Veale and Mrs C F Stillwell. Mr and Mrs Pirtle have been in Detroit since Tuesday.
John F Herren, City Council member, does not plan to resign. Mr and Mrs Herren have been in Ennis to care for Mrs Herren's mother after a broken hip and plan to return to Childress around March 1 to stay.

The Boy Scout Post 64 charter was presented to the Jaycees today by Jeff Henderson. Scouts from the post attended as special guests and J W Hamilton spoke on Childress Boy Scouts and their activities. The Jaycees drive continues with a Sun fund to be kept by members who do not contribute. Guests included Jerry Ross Weldon Hays Clayton Ku h lman Gerald Hudson Ste Quisenberry and Gene well.
