W E Evans 53 retired Fort Worth and Denver railroad conductor died Saturday afternoon in a Vernon hospital of a heart attack. Born October 1 1911 in Dickens he moved to Vernon from Lockney in 1961. Survived by wife Lela, two daughters Rex Ann Anderson and Nancy Jane Evans, two sons Walter Chris Evans and Billy Jack Evans, two grandsons, two brothers E L Evans and W J Evans Jr, and sister Ettie Kephart. Chilean DC6B crashes in Andes killing 87 on flight to Buenos Aires
A Chilean airliner with 87 aboard crashes into snow covered slopes of a volcano in the Andes during a flight from Santiago to Buenos Aires. All aboard perished including one American, Helen Berger of Long Island City. Officials cite clouds and a weather patch near El Volcan Pass as cause. Rescue teams reached the site about 30 miles southeast of Santiago.

A Texas State Teachers Association spokesman said Gov. Connally’s pay plan would trigger an immediate rise in local school property taxes if enacted. The plan, backed by Rep. Bill Heatly and Sen. Thirty one units of blood reached patients at Childress General Hospital after the Red River Blood Center bloodmobile visit on November 6. To transfuse, 70 pints must be on hand for cross matching. Oil Well Found in Kirkland Field Test Reaches Canyon Reef
An oil well on the J. T Perkins land southeast of Kirkland was drilled to 4 606 feet Saturday and believed to have reached the canyon Reef formation containing production oil. The discovery is an offset to the E. V. Perkins No. 3 and has not yet been tested.
