He died at 3 40 a.m. Wednesday in the Veterans Hospital in Amarillo. He served in World War II and was a member of the American Legion and 40 and 8. He married Helen Harris May 2 1970. Survivors include his wife, a son Roger Schaible in Virginia, a daughter Connie Jones of Beverly New Jersey, two step-daughters Alice Vanlandingham Walters Oklahoma Judy Nickelson Tulsa, and a step-son Randy Harris Childress.

Graveside services for Mrs. W. W. Bill Elam former resident were held at 2 p.m. in Childress Cemetery. She died Monday night in a Grand Prairie Hospital and had lived here several years before leaving about 20 years ago. No other details were available.
Patricia Hearst described as willing bandit by prosecutor James Browning while F. Lee Bailey portrays her as a prisoner of war tortured by the Symbionese Liberation Army. Bailey claims she acted under duress and threat, taking the alias Tania and participating in the $10,690 holdup at Hibernia Bank in April 1974. Tape recordings of Hearst before and after the crime are set for testimony.
House opponents propose a compromise to lift government price controls on natural gas by excluding only small independent producers. The proposal won narrow support after a day of debate on decontrol.
