A New York police detective described Black Panthers as terrorists while testifying in the bomb conspiracy trial of 13 defendants. He also said he did not think the militants should be indicted for the raid on an apartment last April connected to the case.
A search plane found the wreckage of an Argentine twin engine airliner that left CAPSULE CORRIENTES Wednesday night with 38 people aboard on a 90 minute trip to Rosario. No signs of life were seen.
A Farm Bureau membership drive launched at a dinner with Governor Preston Smith proclaiming Farm Bureau Membership Week. President Bill McKee led the event with Tom my Klemcke outlining grassroots structure and county participation. Rex Conner and Oscar Lambert discussed resources and drive direction. Mary Richardson coordinated packets. Roy Wygal marked five years with the county group.
Jaycees discussed three upcoming events at noon today. A dance featuring Hank Thompson at Fair Park Auditorium starts 9 p m on February 13 with tickets three dollars in advance four dollars at the door. The Childress County Independence Day Celebration is set for February 28 and the Boosters Club invitational volleyball tournament runs March 16 to 21 at the Junior High gym.
Washington AP report says State Department censorship blocks full Senate Foreign Relations Committee access to four days of Laos hearings. Senator Fulbright calls the censoring heavy and ineffective while Chairman Symington seeks open inquiry into U S commitments abroad with Korea hearings planned.
Fort Worth and Denver shops will see no changes from the Great Northern Northern Pacific and Chicago Burlington merger. Mechanical Superintendent Jack Vogel says modernization is complete and the new firm will be Great Northern Pacific and Burlington Lines Inc. The merge, approved by the Supreme Court, allows consolidation of Burlington lines including Fort Worth and Denver and Colorado and Southern.
Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Stuffle- Beam Funeral Chapel Pauls Valley Oklahoma for Mrs Dixie Morgan. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery Wynnewood Oklahoma. Mrs Morgan formerly operated the Morgan Convalescent Home from 1951 to 1961. Born May 18 1902 in Palo Pinto County Texas she died at 10 45 p.m. Wednesday in the Morgan Nursing Home Pauls Valley. Survivors include two sons G R Buddy Morgan Wynnewood and S P Morgan Miami Florida a sister Alma Hare Brownfield three grandchildren Don Morgan Childress Sharron Mayers Pauls Valley and Gary Morgan Wynnewood.
American fighter bombers attacked SAM missile sites and antiaircraft guns over North Vietnam near the Ban Karai Pass, 30 miles west of Dong Hoi. No aircraft were hit, 20 miles north of the DMZ, as Tet cease fire paused operations.
Records show 222 pints of whole blood and one unit of plasma shipped from Wichita Falls to Childress General Hospital between January 31 and August 31 1969. County donors gave 211 pints that year with 48 56 43 and 64 pints in February May August and November respectively.

She criticized the bill as part of three Buyers Bill of Rights measures aimed at boosting FTC power while restricting class actions to eleven categories.
Mrs. Grant backs a Moss Moss Tydings bill proposed by Frank E. Moss and Joseph D. Tydings that would authorize immediate class actions whenever consumer rights are violated. The measure is presented as superior to the administration proposal.
At the 53rd Vietnam peace talks in Paris U S Ambassador Habib urged North Vietnam to allow impartial observers to inspect POW camps citing new evidence of inhumane treatment. He pressed that North Vietnam must honor the 1949 Geneva convention on the treatment of prisoners.
President Nixon writes to Soviet Premier Kosygin denying U.S. role in escalating Middle East fighting. He urges Israel and Arab states to abide by UN cease fire and calls for renewed U S Soviet arms control talks.
W J McGee district engineer announces the Texas Highway Commission approved a $406 million Consolidated Highway Program for 1970 1971. It covers 1 9686 miles of non Interstate highways with 365 million in construction costs. It includes a U S 83 project in Childress County grading structures and resurfacing for two more lanes at 260 000 and links to the U S 62 project approved earlier in the program.
An apparent wave of killings of women during robberies at drive in groceries and gas stations continued in the Fort Worth Dallas area. The Grand Prairie clerk Mattie L. Smith about 50 was shot in the neck at the Mid Cities Cut Rate Drive In Grocery. An Irving self service gas station attendant was shot to death about thirty minutes earlier and robbed.
Amarillo mayor J. Ernest Stroud may have unwittingly resigned his post by filing for county judge. District Attorney Curtis sought an Attorney General opinion to clarify if the candidacy triggers resignation and who would fill the unexpired term.
Texas Highway Commission approves 97 grade crossing safety devices across 54 railroads in 70 counties under the 1970 Railroad Grade Crossing Protection program. The plan costs 1.4 million for new construction, 193 thousand for signal maintenance, with 1.5 million annual funding and 126 thousand from railroads.

The latest cold front faded across Texas with clouds in most areas and temperatures from the 20s in Dalhart to 57 in Galveston and 58 in Brownsville. A few showers or light rain were forecast tonight or Friday as the front diffuses and loses its identity. NO MEETING The Childress Commandery and Council will not hold its regular meeting tonight, announced by Bill Leonard.
Texas DPS announced a campaign to curb unlicensed driving and suspensions. Roadblocks will appear at unannounced times to catch offenders and employers will be urged to require valid licenses. Col. Wilson Speir noted about one in ten fatal drivers in early 1969 lacked licenses.
