Snow melts as Panhandle bridges reopen after heavy storm
Heavy snow that crippled the Panhandleayed under a bright sun with up to nine inches on the ground and drifts up to ten feet. Amarillo traffic improved as most highways reopened except US 87 west to New Mexico. Snowplows cleared four foot drifts on western routes while temps rose from 30 to warmer by Saturday. Authorities found bus driver Sam Warden, 53, and five students near Dalhart, who had been missing. Bobby James, 14, was found near Boise City. Dalhart reported four inches on the ground. temps ranged from 23 to 51 statewide with fair conditions forecast in western Texas.

A World War I destroyer USS Daly aboard the Atlantic excursion rolled 60 degrees leaving five sailors missing.
