The Supreme Court rejected Powell's bid to recover 55 000 in pay lost from his exclusion from the 90th Congress and declined to recognize his right to reclaim 25 000 fined in 1969 as a condition for taking a seat in the 91st Congress. The decision narrows chances for restitution.

Absentee voting on the proposed farm to market roads in Childress shows little interest with only six ballots cast at city hall. Absentee voting closes Friday. election is Saturday from 8 am to 7 pm. City residents must present a 1969 registration slip to vote.
