AP reports that 14 people died and about 100 were injured in bomb blasts in Rome and Milan as police hunted for foreign links. Authorities questioned over 100 people and tightened security at airports, stations, museums, and party offices amid a political crisis and partisan blame.
NEW YORK AP reports weak holiday sales as inflation erodes purchasing. Shoppers like Mrs. Holland of Chicago and Mrs. Izzo of Columbus say they will buy less or wait for January sales. Retailers note price hikes lift dollar volume more than actual demand, with a crucial week of Dec 19 expected to be decisive. Some chains, like Memphis’s John Gerber Co., report strong Sunday hours and heavier-than-expected traffic.
The Childress Riding Club will hold its annual Caroling on Horseback at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Community House. Members should bring covered dishes. drinks will be provided. The group elected officers, led by President Lloyd Luck with vice president Tony Palmer and secretary-treasurer Estelle Maddox.

SAN MARCOS Texas AP officers sought witnesses to the slaying of Martha Thompson 21 a Southwest Texas State University junior stabbed 26 times as she left San Marcos High School December 5. Sheriff Kinser said only one sighting had been reported near the parking lot after she departed the school.
An explosion at a Mobil Oil gasoline storage tank in north Houston drove more than 300 firefighters to control a fire that destroyed two nearby homes and damaged another. About 15,000 gallons were stored at the plant when the blast occurred around 7 30 a m. One resident, Jackson Reynolds 71, fled with his wife in nightclothes as flames and smoke forced evacuations.

An Ethiopian airliner arrived in Addis Ababa with the bodies of two hijackers and the original crew. Three Ethiopian security guards accompanied the flight from Athens where passengers remain. Ambulances removed the hijackers’ bodies.
