Headway Against Screwworm Starts On Tehuantepec Isthmus
A new line to block screwworm fly penetration will focus on Tehuantepec's 135 mile isthmus under a US Mexico five year plan costing 40 million dollars. The effort uses millions of sterilized male flies to prevent hatching, with 80 percent funded by the United States and 20 percent by Mexico and others. The program expands from Mission Texas to Salina Cruz aboard two Liberty ships, aiming to curb cattle losses and reinfestation in the Southwest.
