A spate of tornadoes struck Minnesota lake country killing at least 12 people and wounding scores. The outages stranded rescues as 10 tornadoes touched down across Cass and St Louis counties, demolishing cabins and farm buildings two miles north of Floodwood and near outing. The Bethany Fellowship camp cottages were ripped from their foundations and dumped into Roosevelt Lake.

The Rev Arthur Olson former China branch director of the Lutheran World Federation and his family are among the missing after a church resort camping trip. A 11 year old boy Leif Goodman died in Wells State Park when a tree fell on a tent during high winds in Upper Michigan. Bruce Woodford of Walker Minnesota reported finding an abandoned motorist’s car south of Backus and searched for a parachuting man from a light plane in the same storm. No tornado was officially reported.

Jury Allows Durbin Confession Evidence in UT Slaying Case
Dist Judge Tom Blackwell ruled the jury may see a seven-page hand written confession by Clyde Durbin Jr. to police about the slaying of a University of Texas student. He said the rights were warned and waived and the confessions were voluntary. The judge overruled objections to admitting some clothing Durbin led officers to. The jury was not present for the ruling but to hear confession testimony later.

Dedication of 1969 Greenbelt Bowl Program
