A cool front lowered Texas temperatures for the day with Dallas marking its coolest Aug 5 since 1920 at 87 degrees. Skies were clear to partly cloudy as readings ranged from 62 at Texarkana to 79 at Corpus Christi with several cities posting 60s and 70s. Rain fell in parts of the state, notably 2.02 inches at College Station in the 24 hours ending 6 30 am, while others reported lighter amounts.

First Lady Mamie Eisenhower underwent a morning operation at Walter Reed Army Hospital for a benign condition. Dr Humbert L Riva a colonel in the Army Medical Corps performed the gynecologist procedure and Hagerty said the operation was not an emergency and nothing malignant was found. She was admitted yesterday and left the operating room around 8 15 a m est. President Eisenhower learned of the operation while at the White House with congressional leaders. Maj John Eisenhower and his wife Barbara visited Mamie Eisenhower after her admission.

Collision Damages Two Cars at City Intersection
A collision at the Commerce Street and Avenue C intersection left two cars damaged with considerable damage but no injuries. Bob Ray traveling east on Avenue C and Buddy Cordell north on Commerce collided around 11:35 p.m. Monday. Cordell, a volunteer firefighter en route to a Dairy Mart fire, was involved as a passenger in the crash. Investigations were not complete, and alarms were sounded for a drive-in awning fire.

Wellington Keith Beeman 30 a Wellington Church of Christ minister was robbed and beaten by a gunman who forced him from his car and left him nude in a mesquite thicket ten miles south of Wellington.
