Administration To Offer Farm Bill Compromise
Washington sources say the administration plans to seek congressional approval of a compromise on this year’s farm bill. It would raise minimum price supports for wheat and corn to about 2 1/2 or 3 percent of parity, drop two price provisions, and oppose a two price plan. The move, aimed at revamping the administration-opposed farm bill, faces long odds and was to be presented to the House in a late Tuesday meeting.

Front Signals Crisp Weather After Wide Texas Storms
A cold front swept through Texas bringing dust and snow across the Panhandle and lower coast. Temperatures fell to 24 in Dalhart and Amarillo and rose to 57 in Brownsville. Gen Randolph Pate arrived at Parris Island to supervise the inquiry into a night march that ended in drowning. Drill instructor Matthew McKeon admitted the march aimed to teach discipline but said the sergeant lacked authority for the unscheduled event. Six recruits drowned, five bodies recovered with one missing. a three officer court is hearing testimonies as the command reviews training methods.
