A poll of House Judiciary Committee members shows enough votes to approve gun control legislation for floor consideration. Approval would mark the first committee vote on the bill since 1968, triggering further moves in both chambers and possible presidential action or veto.
Judiciary Committee members indicate 18 of 34 would back sending gun control legislation to the House floor as 14 pledge yes and two lean yes, with several past supporters reaffirming. Chairman Rodino declines comment on timing as names shift in favor.
Mrs Izora Regalado 63 of Carson City Nev died Sunday in a Reno hospital after a long illness. Funeral services with Order of the Eastern Star rites will be held Wednesday in Carson City. She was a former Childress resident, operated a beauty shop, and was the mother of Charles Baker of Childress. Survivors include Barbara Calhoun of Reno and eight grandchildren. One son James Weldon Baker preceded her in death in May 1956.
Dora Crystal Clapp 86 dies in Fredericksburg Texas after three months in Knapp Nursing Home. Service at Central Christian Church with Rev. Frank Ferrell officiating. Burial in Childress Cemetery. Survivors: son Roger Cleveland Ohio. daughters Mrs. Troy Mitcham Fredericksburg and Mrs. Sue Bemis Amarillo. brother Hartlie Davis St Joseph. eight grandchildren. 11 great grandchildren. Pallbearers named.
Veterans with service connected disabilities qualify for property tax exemptions under a new Texas law. Exemption amounts range from 1 500 to 3 000 of assessed value based on disability percentages, with higher limits for seniors 65 and older. Eligible letters verify disability data and must be sent to Tax Collectors by April 30, 1976.

One new director joined the Childress General Hospital board in Saturdays election. Bob Maynard won with 374 votes while two incumbents were reelected. Mildred Steed received 440 votes and Lewis Herring 261. Other totals included Del Summers 217 Frances Smith 211 and Essie Verner 201.
Shirley Hassell and Bill Bennett were elected to the Childress Independent School District Board of Trustees. Hassell won Place Five with 266 votes against Ken Husband 243 and Oneal Sharp 84, filling a vacancy from Regina Henley’s resignation for a two year term. Bennett won Place Six with 474 votes for a three year term, defeating no opposition. Charles Carter held Place Seven.
A two-car crash at 6 15 p m Sunday at the Highways 287 and 83 junction caused injuries to Billy Harp Shirley of Childress and Dorothy Jean Webb of Amarillo. Both were treated and released from Childress General Hospital. Shirley received a ticket for failure to grant right of way. Police cited Northbound Shirley for pulling into Webb’s eastbound path. Alvis Taylor investigated the wreck.
A Special Bicentennial meeting will be held at 7 30 p m Thursday in the Council Chambers City Hall. Hazel O Donnell Chamber of Commerce manager secretary urged all original attendees to bring their plans. The meeting is open to the public and invites interested persons to attend.
Voting in the city election was heavier this year. One voting box at City Hall will close at 7 p.m. tonight.
The Childress Riding Club will meet at the club house at 8 p.m. today.
The Childress County Heritage Museum Committee will meet at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Childress Museum Center on the Courthouse Square.
