Stamford Tornado Impacts West Texas City With $1 Million Damage
A tornado cut a two mile swath through Stamford causing about 1 million dollars in damage to crops homes and businesses. Roofs were torn off hail bruised cattle and several structures including the rodeo grandstand and local industry suffered severe damage. Two people were injured and authorities noted multiple reports of injuries and a fatality from storm rainfall elsewhere in the area.

An 18 year old Bryan printer was killed and seven persons injured in a freak crash on Highway 36 near here Monday. The victim, Carl Ray Nobles, died at Polly Ryan Hospital. Another youth, Curthel Rice, 17, Bryan, was seriously injured. Six occupants of the second car had minor injuries.

Russian diplomat hanged himself rather than return to Moscow
In Vienna a 43 year old Boris Grankov, identified as a member of the Soviet diplomatic mission in Caracas, hanged himself in a hotel room rather than go back to Moscow. A second Russian with Moscow orders shared the room and vanished. Austrian police began a hunt for him.

Funeral services for W. E. Landrum’s mother held at Groom
