Louis J. Ellis of Grand Rapids aged 26 died in a highway collision on No. 12 between Chicago and St. Joseph after a car attempting to pass a truck forced him to veer. Funeral services were held at St. George Syrian Orthodox church. Ellis was a rising figure in the local buying trade and nephew of Ed, Sam, and John Ellis of Ellis Brothers.

Chicago September 15 Sokol and Co report enroute a carload of dehydrated onion powder and garlic powder from California Vegetable Products of Burbank California. The progress powder aids the sausage packing and canning industry with two carloads equal to twelve carloads of fresh onions and garlic. This year onion and garlic crops run about 26 percent of normal.
