Potatoes Provide Feed Value for Hogs and Cattle
Ada Minn Oct 26 Potatoes not fit for market can be used as animal feed says F W Christensen Farmers report unmarketable potatoes are wasted though they hold feeding value when mixed with grain. Four and three quarters pounds of potatoes equal one pound of corn or barley in value. For dairy cows a pound of potatoes equals a pound of corn silage but limit to 30 to 35 pounds daily. Potatoes should be cooked for hogs and best results occur with four pounds potatoes to one pound grain.
