California shippers face a Union Pacific embargo on grapes shipped in box cars east of Ogden. The move narrows routes to El Paso gateway, prompting talks of waivers to limit damage claims. With a quarter of grape shipments in box cars, supply tightens amid a 25 percent box car share for Tokay and slump in early shipments.
New York reports a dull week with the potato market sagging. Jersey and Long Island supply the metropolitan area while Maine stock remains low. Jersey Green Mountains fetch $1.40 to $1.50 per 160 pound bag and Giants about $1.30 to $1.40. No. 2 stocks mostly unsold. Long Island bags range $1.50 to $2.10 and bulk that's $2.00 to $2.15 per 180 pounds.
Cincinnati set to hold October monthly meeting of the Seton League of Commission Merchants to outline convention plans in December. R. S. French business manager will attend to outline committee work and a dinner at the Business Men's Club has been arranged.
Complaint from Cincinnati outlines that F M Nealis, fruit and vegetable dealer in Hillstore Ky, orders goods and does not pay. Shippers advise insisting on payment before shipment based on experiences with Nealis as a small dealer in various lines.
New York reports from Edward E. Silvers American Vice Consul in Almeria Spain indicate 1922 grape production may reach 1 4 to 1 000 000 barrels, well above 1921's 1 000 000 barrels. Favorable weather and grower disease control boosted yields with good quality noted in Dallas and Berra centers. Mildew damage has been minor due to scarce rains while arid areas report some spotting.

Market reports show wide price swings as heat impacts fruit quality. McIntosh barrels ranged from 4 to 7 50 dollars, with Baldwins Pippins King Davids York Imperials and Hubbard varieties selling lower. Fancy Winter Bananas and Greenings brought mixed yields from two to several dollars per barrel or box depending on size and quality.

Apple exports reported by the Intern Shippers Association show Liverpool sending 14 942 barrels and 2 240 boxes, London 27 802 barrels and 0xes, Glasgow 17 512 barrels and 176 boxes, Southampton 169 barrels, with other totals including 1 125 barrels to Bristol and 150 barrels plus 2 350 boxes to Scandinavia. Pear exports include 1 83.2 barrels and 461 boxes to Liver pool, 224 barrels and 1 067 half boxes with 923 boxes to Glasgow and 60 boxes to Southampton.
Opaque report notes cabbage growers and shippers have loaded freely this week leading to a slightly easier market with good demand. Little storage observed as nearly all cabbage is moving quickly by railcars. Quality of late Holland cabbage described as exceptionally good with week end quotations at 8.50 per ton f.o.b. shipping point.
New York reports warm weather and light demand for cranberries. Prices held firm with barrels selling around 9.75 and half barrel boxes at 6.50 despite light receipts and mixed weather notes.
Los Angeles reports grape shipments from California through October 6 totaling 19 465 cars all box cars and the rest refrigerators 72 523 cars for the season thus far. The market shows a price decline of 10 to 15 dollars a ton from last week while some damage noted in Sonoma and Napa counties.
The annual Shippers' Organization meeting in Chicago is scheduled January 17 to 19. Attendees are urged to book early as hotel rooms at the Sherman and nearby may fill fast due to concurrent national trade conventions.
