Honor Michigan reports fruit shipments and orchard activity. Growers, mainly grain farmers, expand plantings to apples and potatoes, with 100 car shipments forecast and several varieties highlighted. Cranberry movement increases with orders rising from multiple brokers and regions.
Los Angeles reports seven day citrus totals with oranges 260 cars and lemons 27, comparing to prior seasons and noting Valencia weakness from ample peach supply. High grade lemons demand remains strong at 4 to 4.50 dollars fob, while overall shipments stay low and prices may rise within a month. Senator Flint praises railroad regulation as citrus growers celebrate his visit at Levy’s with 490 attendees.
Some 265 cars of apples are moving forward from the Watsonville district this week, with a total of 318 cars forwarded so far. Packing houses are rushed, Belleflyer is the principal variety in peak season, and new towns are receiving shipments as shippers report ample rail cars to handle demand.
B Presley Co of St Paul advertises 20000 barrels of Jonathan Grimes Golden Ben Davis and other winter apples for storage stock in southern Iowa and southern Missouri offering best deals to first class houses.
The Cal. grape district reports a massive table grape output, led by Tokay, Black Prince, and Emperor varieties. Lodi ships around 1,200 cars yearly, with Tokays to New York, Black Princes to Texas, and prices around 90c a crate for Todays and 50c for Black Princes. The San Joaquin TABLE GRAPE Growers Assn counts 286 growers, with packing houses and Chicago agents handling eastern shipments. Also noted are plans for a large potato deal and a long-tenured South Water Street dealer.
