Memphis Egg and Poultry Market Review in Early November

In Memphis this week business was steady with few price changes. Fresh eggs remained at 2 cents locally, storage eggs sent out at 26 cents, and storage stock moving to cover November and December orders. Dressed poultry demand rose slightly while turkey trade remained uncertain though supply is expected ample. Apples held at 4.50 to 5 per barrel with ample storage reducing discounts, lettuce scarce with prices up, cabbage and potatoes easing, butter tight with strong demand for country butter. Patent egg cartons from W A Schurmann & Co of Chicago announced they will enforce Patent No 916601 for folding cartons.

Minneapolis reports steadier egg supplies with cooler stocks moving faster but prices rising from 28c to around 30c for retail. Butter and dairy demand remains strong while storage goods offer mixed prospects. Poultry arrivals stay heavy and uneven, cheeses expected to hit record figures, and potato markets show unsettled behavior with frost fears and price shifts. Florida oranges appear slow next to California fruit, New York Concord grapes price parity holds with Michigan stock, and Michigan grapes move in car lots via George & Co.
