Local apple trade remains robust with firmer demand for barrels and boxes. Good stock of varied varieties moves well, with receipts surpassing storage limits at some facilities. Dealers push barrel holdings when prices permit, as storage rooms fill and egg holdings crowd available space.
P F McGuire of St Paul Minn died last Wednesday morning in Rochester after an operation for gastric trouble. Born in Holy Cross Dubuque County he lived there until age 27 when he moved to St Paul. He founded McGuires and Mulrooney in 1888 and led until selling in 1892 to pursue banana business, which he continued until his death. Funeral attendance by KCs and trades officers closed all city houses 8 to 10 am. Survived by his wife and five children. the business to be carried on by his sons.
Detroit's National League members welcomed Jr. KE Wanley, the league's business manager, at a hotel dinner on October 27. Hanley offered bright remarks and proposals seen as promising for future NL developments.
