Moultrie Georgia May 28 South Georgia is forecast to produce a large watermelon crop this season with increased acreage across the region. Stands have improved after replanting and buyers inspect the crop, expecting it to arrive late enough not to disrupt Florida sales and earlier than Middle Georgia output.
Jacksonville Texas May 28 predicts the East Texas tomato movement will open around June 6 with gradual gains over ten days. Weather worsened yields earlier, acreage rose about 25 percent, and shipments are expected near 2,200 carloads for the season led by green wrapped stock from San Benito and Rio Grande Delta activity.

New York May 28 L Van Bekkelven of 861 Washington street received 2637 crates of Valencia onions from the Argentine this week marking the first time onions grown and packed in the Argentine Republic have been shipped in cans or shipped in containers of 140. The market is unsettled with onions of varied quality and shipping times delaying other consignments.

Springdale Ark May 28 A carload of grapes will be shipped to St Louis and Chicago for free distribution preliminary to the grape festival in August if plans of the festival committee are carried out. It plans to drop 1000 baskets in St Louis and send the remaining 3000 to Chicago. Each Ozark district association will contribute its quota and all grapes will be assembled in Springdale for shipment. Many towns will take part and expenses will be raised from election contests for a queen with each town contributing 50 percent of the receipts from the contests.
Report from Centro Calif May 28 notes cooler weather and disease mildews blamed for lower cantaloupe shipments from the Imperial Valley. Shipments drop from 365 cars Monday to 265 on Wednesday underscoring weak markets. Vines under spray and new Pollock varieties may improve later output while early fruit shows quality issues due to mildew and poor demand though some expect June stock to rise.
New Orleans May 28 T J Bartlett receiver of the Orr Fruit and Steamship Company says after April petition by stockholder creditor W B Scott that the firm was placed in receivership most assets are heavily mortgaged and ordinary creditors are unlikely to realize on their claims indicating limited prospects for recovery.
Jacob Tuinstra Edward Heeren and Cornelius Heyboer operating a fruit and vegetable business at 346 Monroe Avenue filed a debtor’s petition in U S District Court. They report liabilities of 3869.14 and assets of 2094 with retail focus.
