Michigan Fruit Growers Spring Meeting Reports Soil Tactics
At Pontiac Michigan during the Michigan State Horticultural Society spring convention fruit growers were urged to monitor soil moisture by observing run off. Dr R D Anthony of Pennsylvania State College advocated growing sod in rotation to reduce runoff and boost organic matter while recommending heavy fertilization when sod culture is used. Secretary H D Hootman highlighted the farmer as teacher and cited field observations aligning with scientific discovery. He noted biennial bearing can be tempered by thinning after blossom shucks drop and described leaf-to-crop relationships influencing annual yields.

Conflicting reports on winter damage to Michigan peach buds. Estimates ranged from zero to over one thousand percent killed. State horticulturist A C Boyer reported over half the buds blasted, while some growers and horticulturists remained optimistic about a fair crop.
