Severe late frost cripples Florida vegetable crops from Miami to Fort Lauderdale

Reports from The Packer’s correspondents describe one of the worst late frosts in years across the lower east coast of Florida. The heaviest damage hit truck lands from Miami to Fort Lauderdale, with up to 75 percent loss in tomatoes and other vegetables while citrus suffers little. Everglades lowlands and Dania area lost over half their crops, and Dania, Hallandale, Ojus, Lemon City, and nearby pockets faced major reductions. Some replanting is expected as growers salvage remaining plants and await a longer, harder season.
