Kansas City dealers will tour Cleveland Detroit Buffalo and other terminals to copy modern facilities. Apple buying by government irks Yakima shippers
Yakima Washington March 4 Much dissatisfaction exists among Yakima shippers of apples as the Federal Surplus Commodities Corporation announced a price of 60 cents per box for fancy Winesap and Delicious apples while sale prices run about a cent higher. Handlers say government entry has done more harm than good slowing trading and lowering prices. When the government bid 60 cents, trade wanted that rate but chain stores held purchases and shippers would not sell top stock at the bid. Commercial trading slowed in the last ten days. Corporation officials indicate paying market price may be impossible. Continued on Page 18.

Asparagus Deal In Delta Area Ready To Start
Delta area asparagus harvests continued with minimal rain interruption and the first straight car was expected by week’s end. Shipments to eastern markets totaled 300 crates Monday, 200 Tuesday, 200 Wednesday, with heavier cutting Thursday as rains delayed further progress. Truck receipts on the San Francisco market rose to 500 crates green and 47 white last Saturday before rain slowed cutting again.
