Trouble at Consolidated Fruit Auction in Cleveland
At a Friday sale in Cleveland the auction opened to all bidders but chains dominated the purchase. Harry Bigalow stated bids from chain stores would be accepted after being told by Tom Walsh that association members would not buy if chains won. Eight cars sold, four California oranges, three lemons, one plum, all to chains. Four cars withdrawn. California Fruit Exchange supplied all items. Retailers had been told to stay away earlier in the month.
