The Macon Georgia peach trade reports easing rains sped ripening but shipments this week stay well under earlier forecasts. Most Early Rose peaches are shipped. Hileys set to begin near June 25 to 28. total season movement expected between 900 and 1,000 cars.
Salinas California June 22 lettuce market opened softer with lower quotes for four and five carloads at 1.50 on the track. Tuesday dull with moderate cash demand. Wednesday firmer cash demand, fair wire inquiry, steady at current volume. shipments from central California totaled 16, 94, 96, and 104 cars for the first four days of the week.
California Elberta peach shippers meet in Sacramento to establish a clearing house to regulate shipments this year. Offices will be in Fresno. the plan aims to eliminate price arrival sales and control rolling cars under the California fresh deciduous tree fruit marketing agreement. A Packer representative said near unanimous adoption by state shippers was expected at a Fresno meeting.
Nashville Arkansas June 22 The peach deal started today with the first car of Harry Rose loaded by Cap Murray and Sonley Stone. Claude Garner handled it for the DeFeo Fruit Company of Kansas City. Size color and quality were fine with conditions ideal. A good rain would help though trees are not suffering. Other varieties will follow about ten days later than Georgia which began June 12.
The government would referee a proposed marketing plan for California Florida and Texas citrus shippers to share tonnage and reduce shipping volumes. The idea relies on give and take with mutual concessions, emulating state control like Sonora that may forego private distribution. Human natures still human nature.
The National Fruit and Vegetable Exchange announces moving its executive offices from Chicago to the Hudson Terminal building New York City effective June 25. F B Embree named general salesman with NY headquarters. John F Deegan remains eastern sales manager in New York. J D Horton remains western sales manager in Chicago. Traffic department stays in Chicago temporarily. Next executive meeting set for New York in late July or August.
Washington June 22 The Agricultural Adjustment Administration has suspended consideration of the proposed marketing agreement for the Georgia peach industry for the current shipping season. The suspension followed a industry committee request and a letter from W C Bewley stating the industry preferred to postpone action.
Cold Storage Company announces a meeting of the Missouri Valley chapter of the Association of Refrigerated Warehouses to be held at St Joseph Country Club in St Joseph Missouri on June 29. H C Herschman and W L Goetz will host and invitees include cold storage warehousemen from the middle west and southwest.
A two day public hearing in Kansas City on a proposed marketing agreement for Missouri and Kansas Irish potatoes drew sharp opposition. Delegates urged government action while others warned of personal liberty infringement. The hearing results were sent to Washington for the secretary of agriculture to decide on a revised agreement.
Three ordinances before the Board of Aldermen seek to regulate and tax itinerant peddlers. Critics, including M Augenblick & Erp of Newark, warn enforcement would backfire and invite retaliation from smaller markets outside the metropolis. Local dealers back the move to protect investments and boost city revenue.
Nogales June 22. After two years of marketing perishables from the west coast of Mexico through Wells Fargo Express Company the cooperative societies under government control announce growers and shippers can market without intervention. Sinaloa likely to follow with similar pro market move.
New York reports Commissioner Morgan announces construction of a Bronx wholesale market near Bronx Terminal Market will start by July 15. First 48 stores to be ready for occupancy by October with $950,000 approved for initial unit and plans for 31 more. Bids for the first unit to open July 11.
Three peddlers from Iowa and Arkansas were arrested in Springfield as officials launched a campaign against itinerants. Licensing costs $100 yearly and fines ranged from 33.15 to 100 with one sentence suspended after restitution. Commissioner Herschel E. Bennett supported the drive.
Chicago reports a weak cabbage market with ample receipts. Mississippi crates brought 90c to $1.25, Tennessee crates 65c to $1, Missouri crates 90c to $1.15, Virginia crates $1 to $1.10, and eastern hampers around $1.00.

Ed Stedman Jr head of the Stedman Company died Sunday. He was father of Ed Stedman Jr a member of the Advisory Board of the Western Fruit Jobbers Association.
George Lasbury president of the National League of Commission Merchants warns members that 75 to 90 per cent of the Code of Fair Competition's impact hinges on local organizations. He urges vigorous, intelligent effort by local committees under National Code Authority to improve conditions in the wholesale fruit and vegetable trade. Continued on Page 8.
El Centro California June 22 cantaloupe market started the week firm with active demand and higher prices. By midweek demand waned and prices declined with light need. Shipments from the valley for four days totaled 147 to 176 cars while central California moved nine to 13 cars daily. Delano district and planned Turlock shipments noted later start and light volume. Acreage estimates show 700 acres planted cantaloupes, 1,400 acres other melons mainly honeydews.
The Loxley Alabama district reports weeks left for the green corn deal with tender stock still available until after July 16. Shipments are federally inspected and attractively packed in five dozen Alabama corn crates, heavily iced to preserve quality as inspectors and shippers provide top ice.
E. B. Briggs and Willam L. Wagner left for Washington to confer on the master code for the fruit and vegetable trade pending President Roosevelt's signature. Leaders from four trade groups and associations planned meetings with the code committee to discuss administration after signing.
Kansas City reports from top potato growers and shippers indicate about a half crop for Kaw Valley and Orrick Missouri districts. Estimates show 1760 to 2000 cars in Kaw Valley and 1300 to 1600 cars east of Kansas City. frost and heat damage have reduced yields though recent rain helps. Quality expected high with normal sizes, but set is light and some fields yield patchy. Most shipments likely after July 4 with Triumphs in DeSoto and Cobbler dominating.
J M McCauley and Son of Brooklyn announce they will market a large portion of New Jersey potatoes. The M and M Co operative Association formed by regional growers will ship 18 to 20 cars daily over six weeks, handling up to 125000 sacks. McCauley will act as exclusive agents with Mickeys brand, while the operation centers in Freehold Monmouth County and extends into Mercer County.
Humboldt Tennessee June 22 authorities expect 2000 cars of tomatoes to market in the Tennessee green wrap deal opening June 25. Quality fruit should be large with a six by six size run. delays aim to improve distribution while Florida packers join western Tennessee sheds. Milan Gibson Humboldt and Sitka lead loadings as the deal runs to late July with peak after July 4.
Granby Colorado lettuce shipments for the season are about three weeks ahead with first cars due around July 20. Walter R Wood owner of Granby Lettuce and Produce says about 500 acres are planted and L Gillarde Company is selected as distributor to handle the full crop. This is Gillarde’s third year handling the output for the firm.
