Early Illinois Apples Show Strong Quality Prospects

Railroad settles for car of lemons in New York suit

W G Merrin of Fair and Martin Inc Atlanta was the principal witness in a suit by Brown and Seccomb against the Pennsylvania railroad over a car of lemons. The Pennsylvania delivered another car of inferior fruit, and the New York firm took the claim off Tait and Martin. The railroad settled in full the day before the case was to come up.

Grand Rapids Michigan June 10 Ernest L Wellman a noted bean broker known as Carload Wellman or the bean king of Michigan was indicted by a federal grand jury in District Court on forgery charges involving bills of lading. The indictment alleges he feloniously forged and printed counterfeit bills of lading with intent to defraud. Wellman for years ran a large bean handling operation tied to wartime contracts in Michigan.
