Utah Farm Marketing Act to Begin Under New Board
The Utah State Board of Agriculture moves to implement the new state Farm Marketing Act with an appointed marketing director and a $5,000 state appropriation. David F. Smith, Commissioner of Agriculture, notes education has focused on growing crops, not marketing, and the director will monitor markets and inform growers of price trends. Utah County Fruit Growers oppose the 1937 Sunday Closing Act, arguing it hurts farmers by increasing losses from glutted markets, with protests and arrests. Washington signals $1,000,000 in federal money for weed eradication in Utah, a top priority for farmers facing noxious weeds.
