A majority of Arkansas Valley cantaloupe associations formed the Arkansas Valley Melon Fruit and Vegetable Growers Federation to push state and federal inspection of all cantaloupes shipped from the valley with a goal of stopping shipment of green melons. The group plans a uniform crate and pack and some associations will ship independently to save commissions. The federation will be incorporated and bills for federal inspection are being prepared for Congress. Most associations are expected to join.
