Dayton man convicted in booze label scam case
Alex Skilken of Dayton was convicted in United States District Court on charges of manufacturing counterfeit whiskey labels and conspiracy to defraud the government. Operating as the Dayton Fruit Exchange, he used forged stamps on so called ponded whiskey sold at high prices. The prosecutor termed him the head of a gang that produced cheap liquor and stamps. Judge Sater deferred sentence, with a motion for a new trial.
