Turpin supported the plan while Grand Junction Fruit Growers Assn opposed. A committee was authorized to form local committees to build interest.
Chicago on December 27 E D Ball and J Hills Slater were arrested on an embezzlement charge connected to Peters Bros. Bail set at 5000 each. Peters claims peaches were shipped on consignment with inadequate accounting. Ball alleged to have handled much of the funds and may be linked to prior trouble. Also New York reports a fruit dealer, Lambhroso Podary of 271 Washington Street, petitioned for bankruptcy with liabilities of 1223 and no assets.
A Chicago meeting between Western Fruit Jobbers' Association leader J E Stewart and railroad officials explored speeding departures from Chicago. The committee reported favorable interest but said the aim would take time and another session may follow after the convention.

Elgin officials report that the Elgin batter board meeting last Monday operated under new rules with no quotations. Five extras were posted, one of which matched the previous quota price. Colder weather persists in the Elgin district though open winter remains unsettled by snow.
Louis Malleris a fruit dealer who used the alias Miller on South Water street has not been seen for days. Claims he owes $500 to rival firms and about $13,000 to clothing and dry goods houses. He ran a general attire business with his fruit trade and his past reputation was decent though few firms were caught. He reportedly returned to his native country to fight in the war.
Egg receipts from March 1 to last Saturday show 4,519.5 cases versus 4,341,360 the prior year same date. total receipts to last Saturday 35,581 cases vs 26,265 a year ago. Market weak on fresh stock, steady on storage. prices quoted for various grades and sizes with movement in storage and ongoing weakness on fresh stock.
In New York on December 27, live poultry trading stayed fair with very heavy receipts totaling eight to ten carloads, including carryovers. Fowls sold 13 to 15 cents, good southern stock down to 12 cents. chickens 11 to 14 cents, poorer stock down to 9 cents. Duck and goose demand was strong, with turkeys top prices around 28 to 29 cents for fat stock. Dressed poultry showed moderate receipts. roasting chickens and fowl remained in demand. Wisconsin Maryland prices hit 21 cents for ducks, tight supply supported firm market overall.
Butter receipts from May 1 to last Saturday totaled 1 709 532 packages, up from 1 605 151 eight years earlier. Week ending last Saturday shows 28 860 receipts versus 36 421 a year ago. Monday through Friday daily receipts are listed with a holiday on Wednesday. Market trends ranged from generally weaker to steady with downward pressure on ordinary grades and firmer feeling for fancy. creamery extras sold around 27 1/4 cents, with storage at 24 to 24 1/4 cents and limited factory stock activity.
