A drunken pedestrian knocked him down, a second man struck him, and a taxi carried him off before Wright escaped and flung the money bag from the car. The crowd feared a bomb until the bag was recovered by a bystander and turned over to police. Wright, ejected from the taxi after the thieves found no loot, celebrated the narrow escape and saved the fortune for the company.
