The fifth annual meeting of the Western Growers Protective Association in Los Angeles elected C I Sawdey president with Fred G Hilvert and A Tracy Miller as vice presidents and John Arena as treasurer. C B Moore remains managing secretary as officers and a long board of directors from Los Angeles to Phoenix discussed traffic, licensing, and the Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act. The meeting stressed orderly marketing, cooperation from growers, shippers, brokers, and retailers to ensure a strong distribution system for California and Arizona crops. Continued on page 4.

Fred Leonard Passes Unexpectedly Trade Pioneer of Boston
Fred M. Leonard, 74, president and treasurer of the F M Leonard Company, died after suddenly falling ill while being driven to a hospital in Boston on December 9. A longtime figure in fruit and produce trade, he organized his company in 1880 and also owned Florida orange groves and potato lands. Burial services were held Friday at the Leonard residence in Winthrop, Massachusetts.

Receiver Appointed for Henschen Fruit and Produce Co
