Cincinnati reports a firmer peach market with lighter receipts and solid demand. Fancy Elbertas bring 2.20 to 2.50 per bushel, choice fruit 1.50 to 2.00, white fruit 1.50 to 2.00, as Kentucky and Indiana supplies dwindle and late varieties approach.
An Aug 26 report notes better outlook for fruit in Shelby Michigan with increased spraying curbing San Jose scale. Apple crops rise from last year as Duchess and other varieties mature. peach orchards show mixed results while beans and potatoes expand, with 400 plus carloads of potatoes expected and seed stock markets rising along the lake shore.
Lyman Baffin, bookkeeper for A. P. Lawhead & Co., was arrested at his Cincinnati home for embezzling 10 dollars, with authorities noting potential losses over 2000 dollars. The case was set for trial, bond initially five thousand then reduced to twenty five hundred, and friends secured his release on bail. Rumors suggest an out of court settlement. Baffin also turned over a personal lot valued at 1400 dollars.

Indiana and Tennessee stock is cleaning up and western fruit now has the call. Genuine Rocky Fords are selling at 2.60 to 2.75 per standard crate and around 2 for the ponies. Missouri stock is 1.25 to 1.50 per standard crate and 1.25 to 1.50 for ponies. Maryland stock is offered around 1.50 to 1.75 per standard crate. Indiana and Tennessee cantaloupes sell around 1 to 1.25 for standard crates and Indiana baskets 26 to 40 cents, as to quality.
