George Cullen vice president of the North American Fruit Exchange was found dead with a bullet wound in a Vanderbilt Hotel room in New York. Doctors said death by own action after Cullen, a 45 year old bachelor, had suffered a nervous breakdown weeks earlier and left his office to travel to the Pocono Mountains. His longtime associate Arthur Rule expressed deep shock at the loss to colleagues and industry.

Washington D C Aug 18 The Department of Agriculture reports the year s commercial apple crop at 33 402 000 barrels up from 21 204 000 last year On July 1 the crop was 31 41 000 barrels a rise of about 2 0 million barrels The total farm crop across the United States is put at 201 726 402 bushels versus 98 097 000 last year
Movement of onions from Ohio and Indiana districts begins this week with limited selling. Production is higher than last year, with some fields yielding up to 600 bushels per acre and large storage plans by growers.
